Dog Food Calculator: How Much Should I Feed My Dog Per Day?

Feeding guides on the bag are generous one-size-fits-all ranges. This calculator works out your dog's daily food properly: it estimates the energy your dog needs from its weight and activity using the standard veterinary formula, then converts that into grams of your specific food using the calories printed on the pack.

How much should I feed my dog?

Your dog's healthy current weight.

Sets the energy multiplier for your dog.

Find "kcal/100g" or "ME" on the food label. Dry food is often 330 to 400 kcal/100g, wet food 70 to 120.

Split the daily amount across this many meals.

How this works: vets estimate a dog's resting energy as 70 times its bodyweight in kg to the power 0.75, then multiply by an activity factor to get daily calories. We divide that by your food's calorie density to get grams. Treat it as a starting point, weigh your dog monthly, and adjust by 10 percent if it is gaining or losing. Always switch foods gradually and ask your vet about puppies, pregnant dogs or any medical condition.
